Users report file mix-ups, errors amid ChatGPT outage

Users globally were frustrated on Tuesday as ChatGPT, OpenAI’s chatbot, experienced an outage.

The disruption, which started at an unspecified time, made the service inaccessible and unreliable for many users.

The issues triggered a wave of reactions across social media, particularly X.

Reports from various locations indicated that ChatGPT displayed persistent error messages like “Hmm…something seems to have gone wrong” and “A network error occurred”.

Beyond just access problems, some users reported alarming data mix-ups.

“ChatGPT is not working, and it brought files from someone else!” a user wrote.

“It said: It seems you attached two .docx files. What do you want me to do with them? I didn’t add any of those files, but I took screenshots and asked to translate them. Dangerous, it was a resume and cover letter.”

The malfunction impacted both free-tier users and ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

Meanwhile, Sam Altman, chief executive officer (CEO) of OpenAI, appeared to be focused on other developments.

The CEO took to his X account on Tuesday to announce a price drop for one of his products.

“We dropped the price of o3 by 80%!! Excited to see what people will do with it now. Think you’ll also be happy with o3-pro pricing for the performance,” he wrote.

OpenAI has yet to address ChatGPT’s dysfunction.

Here are a few reactions.
