A devastating accident occurred on Friday, June 27, at the Mile 6 Market in Jalingo, Taraba State, when a tipper truck loaded with sharp sand lost control and plowed into a crowd of traders and shoppers. The impact left several people dead and many others injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck's tyre bursted while it was traveling at high speed, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the crowded marketplace. A local vendor described the scene:
"It happened so fast. The truck was speeding, and after the tyre burst, the driver couldn’t steer. It just rammed into people."
Emergency responders, including police officers and medical personnel, quickly arrived at the scene to rescue victims and transport the injured to nearby hospitals. The driver has been arrested and taken into police custody for further investigation.
