Tottenham fined £75,000 over fans misconduct in Man United clash

Tottenham Hotspur have been fined £75,000 by the Football Association for crowd control breaches during their Premier League fixture against Manchester United on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

This is detailed in a statement on Thursday obtained by our correspondent from the FA website.

It was titled, “Tottenham Hotspur sanctioned for crowd misconduct.”

The charge relates to two separate incidents — around the 49th and 79th minutes — in which Spurs were found to have “failed to ensure its spectators and or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and don’t use words or otherwise behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting way with either an express or implied reference to sexual orientation.”

The North London club admitted both breaches of FA Rule E21 and initially faced a sanction of £150,000, an action plan, and a formal warning imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission.

However, following an appeal, an independent Appeal Board reviewed the case and halved the financial penalty.

“Tottenham Hotspur FC admitted both charges, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed an action plan, £150,000 fine and warning.

“An independent Appeal Board reduced the fine to £75,000 following an appeal by the club,” the FA stated.

The FA has published the written reasons for both the Regulatory Commission’s and Appeal Board’s decisions, further detailing the events surrounding the misconduct.

This latest disciplinary measure, according to the statement, underscores the FA’s continued push to enforce anti-discrimination protocols and crowd control standards across English football.
