Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar's 2023 presidential campaign, has declared his political independence.
He made this known On Channels Television's "Politics Today," Sowunmi stated, "I am not tied to anybody," addressing speculation surrounding his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
Sowunmi emphasized his freedom to make decisions and engage with anyone, including President Tinubu, without being bound by party affiliations.
He commended Tinubu's political acumen, saying, "He doesn't have one approach to dealing with everybody. By miles, he is smarter than them. He is smarter than Peter Obi.
Sowunmi clarified that his visit to Tinubu was not a betrayal of his long-standing affiliation with Atiku Abubakar but rather an opportunity to engage with the President and understand his perspectives.
“I am at liberty as an adult to take decisions. I am not tied to anybody. I am not anti-Tinubu. I own my mouth, I own my words, and I own my arguments.
“Do you know the difference between Bola and them? He doesn’t have one approach to dealing with everybody. By miles, he (Tinubu) is smarter than them. He is smarter than Peter Obi, he is smarter than them,"he said.
