A disturbing case of kidnapping has sparked fresh fears over rising insecurity in Lagos, as a young woman was abducted in Obalende and only released after a ransom of two million naira was paid.
According to social media user @TeemarsBeauty, who
identified herself as the victim’s sister, the incident occurred on the evening
of June 20th. The victim was reportedly kidnapped in the Obalende area and
forced to contact her family and friends while her captors demanded a ransom.
“They took her from Obalende and called everyone on her
phone,” Teemar wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “They demanded 2 million Naira
and didn’t release her until the money was complete.”
The kidnappers eventually dropped the victim in Iyana Oworo
around 3 a.m. on June 21st. Luckily, police officers were present at the scene
and assisted her in getting home safely.
