Palpable tension has gripped Ifa Ikot Akpan village in Akwa Ibom State following threats of attack by suspected cultists.
The village head, Eteidung Aniedi Ebong, revealed that the community received a letter from a cult group warning of violence and destruction if their demands are not met.
The letter read thus: “We the members of KKK cult confraternity write to warn ifa Ikot Akpan Village Council Members that we will not fold our hands and see the constant harassment of our members with the use of security agencies.
“We want to state categorically that if anything happens to any of our members in this recent time, the following people will not go scot free for giving information about our members to security agencies in the state.
“The Youth Chairman, Ifa Ikot Akpan Village Council, Mr. Abasiama Etim Eyo, Mr. Itoro Offiong Essien, Mr. Itoro Etim Ben, the Chairman, Ifa Ikot Akpan Village Council, Mr. Edidiong Effiong Ubit, the Secretary Ifa Ikot Akpan Village Council, Mr. Victor Edet Asuquo.
“Note: Get it at your back of mind that the leader of KKK confraternity is from Ifa and we will not allow anything to happen to any of our members in Ifa.
They claim that their members are being harassed by security agencies, and the villagers are allegedly providing information about them.
Ifa Ikot Akpan community have sent a Save Our Souls (SOS) appeal to the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Commissioner of Police, demanding immediate action to prevent chaos.
A village elder expressed concern over the threat, stating that it is not just a scare tactic but a real danger.
The Akwa Ibom Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, promised that action would be taken as soon as possible to prevent any regrettable outcome.
