Stakeholders Call on Tinubu to Restore Fubara as Rivers Governor

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is among several prominent Nigerians urging President Bola Tinubu to reinstate suspended Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara.

According to sources, Jonathan has had at least one phone conversation with Tinubu, emphasizing the need for Fubara's reinstatement ahead of Democracy Day on June 12.

This push for reinstatement is also supported by other former presidents and stakeholders.

The timing of the reinstatement is crucial, with many banking on June 12 for a possible resolution, given the president's tradition of addressing the nation on this day.

Critics argue that Tinubu's suspension of Fubara is unconstitutional, as the president lacks the power to suspend an elected governor without legislative backing.

Some speculate that Tinubu's decision to reinstate Fubara might depend on the governor's potential alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or his ability to work with Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

Professor Benjamin Okaba, National President of the Ijaw National Congress, believes Tinubu should reinstate Fubara without delay, citing the president's democratic credentials and understanding of the people's love for their governor.

There are rumors that Fubara might join the APC, like other governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or work with Tinubu for a mutually beneficial political arrangement.
