The Nigerian Army (NA) says “some gallant warriors paid the supreme price” as bandits launched coordinated attacks on military bases in parts of Kaduna and Niger states.
In a statement on Wednesday, the army said the attacks
occurred on Tuesday at forward operating bases in Kwanar Dutse, Mairiga and
Boka in Niger state, as well as in Aungwan Turai, Chikun LGA of Kaduna.
The army described the assault as a “three-pronged attack”
on the bases.
“In response, troops of the land and air components swiftly
launched several counter-attacks that neutralised scores of the bandits during
fierce engagements,” the statement reads.
The army added that four other soldiers sustained gunshot
wounds and are currently receiving treatment.
Troops were praised for their gallantry and resilience
during the “day-long battles”.
The NA added that clearance operations are ongoing in the
surrounding areas to root out fleeing bandits and restore normalcy.
