Single Tenure of 6 Years Enough to do Work of 8 Years - Gov Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has canvaseed a single term of six years for elected political office holders in the country.

Makinde made this declaration on Friday, in Ibadan, the state capital.

He spoke when Muslim faithful, Islamic clerics and other stakeholders paid a visit to his residence shortly after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers.

The delegation that visited the governor was led by the Deputy Governor, Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal. Others are the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, former Deputy Governor and PDP Deputy National Chairman, Taofeek Arapaja, Hazeem Gbolarumi and Hamid Gbadamosi.

The delegation also included a member representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency, Abass Adigun AgboworiN, and Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Alhaji Dawodu Makanjuola.

Makinde while addressing the delegation, noted that a single term of five or six years is enough for any government to focus and serve the people.

“That is why I feel if you remove all these distractions, a single tenure of five or six years is actually enough to focus and do the work that we are trying to do in eight years.

“Well, we shouldn’t be afraid to say the fact based on data that is available to us. It has nothing to do with me. If they say I should end it, so be it”.
