Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has denied having a rift with President Bola Tinubu.
Sanwo-Olu spoke on Sunday after he and members of the
Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) visited Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi,
Lagos.
The meeting comes as speculations about a rift between
Tinubu and the Lagos state governor heightened.
However, speaking with journalists after the meeting,
Sanwo-Olu said they were there for the “usual festive courtesy visit” to the
president.
Asked if there is a feud between him and Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu
said the president remains his father and leader.
“Do you see any discord? Can’t you see that you are smiling?
I’m smiling. There’s none (feud),” the Lagos governor said.
“There are people who believe that they are more Catholic
than the Pope. People are just crying more than the bereaved. We are grateful that
he has given us an audience today.”
There have been rumours that the relationship between Tinubu
and Sanwo-Olu is not cordial following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as
the Lagos house of assembly speaker.
But Obasa was later restored as the speaker.
Last Saturday, Tinubu snubbed Sanwo-Olu during the
inauguration of the completed phase 1, section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar coastal
highway.
On Thursday, Sanwo-Olu was absent when Tinubu flagged off
the reconstruction of the deep seaport access road in the state.
Speaking on what they discussed with the president, he said
the Lagos APC stakeholders told Tinubu that Nigerians are happy with the impact
of his administration.
He noted that the nation’s economy has made a “positive
bend” and questioned the basis for the June 12 planned protests by some groups.
“What will be the basis of the protest? The economy has made
a positive bend. Give this president more time,” the Lagos governor said.
