Reps Pass Bill to Extend 2024 Budget to December 31

The House of Representatives has passed a bill for second reading that seeks to extend the implementation period of the capital component of the 2024 budget.

The proposed extension would allow projects to continue until December 31, 2025, instead of the original deadline of June 30, 2025.

The bill, titled "A Bill for an Act to Amend the 2024 Appropriation Act to Further Extend the Capital Components of the Act From 30th June 2025 to 31st December 2025 and for Related Matters (HB.2404)," was presented by Deputy Majority Leader, Ibrahim Halims, during Tuesday's plenary.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, emphasized that the extension is necessary due to the slow pace of budget implementation. Abbas noted that the 2024 budget has not been substantially executed, justifying the need for more time to complete projects.

The bill was passed for second reading after a voice vote and referred to the Committee on Supply for further review and legislative action.
