Former Senate President Bukola Saraki met with Governor Seyi
Makinde of Oyo State amid the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP.
Saraki’s meeting with Makinde is part of efforts to resolve
the crisis in the PDP and reconcile all aggrieved members.
Posting on X, Saraki expressed hope that PDP leaders may
come together and form a common position.
He wrote: “Thank you, Your Excellency, Governor Seyi
Makinde, for making time to meet with us today—even though it coincided with
your wife’s birthday. Warm wishes to Her Excellency Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde.
“Following today’s meeting, we remain cautiously optimistic
as we forge ahead to secure a common position among the leadership of our great
party.
“I’m currently in Oyo State with Governor Dankwambo, meeting
with Governor Seyi Makinde, as part of our committee’s ongoing efforts.”
Recently, the former senate president has been meeting some
party chieftains with the aim of resolving the party’s crisis.
PDP’s crisis began in 2022 over the disagreement in zoning
formula.
Some party chieftains like the Minister of the Federal
Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and his G-5 group including Makinde had faulted
the party’s zoning arrangement.
They wanted PDP to zone its presidential ticket to the South
since the then National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu was from the North.
But, the party had insisted and zoned its presidential
ticket to the North, thereby, paving the way for former Vice President Atiku
Abubakar to emerge as PDP’s flag bearer.
