Opposition Parties Unite to Challenge APC in Gombe State

Opposition parties in Gombe State, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP), have formed an alliance to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.

The alliance was facilitated by Mohammed Barde, a PDP chieftain and former governorship candidate.

The opposition parties have come together to challenge the APC's dominance in Gombe State. The alliance was formed during a meeting convened by Mohammed Barde at the Emerald Hotel, attended by chairmen and key members of the opposition parties.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the former gubernatorial candidate explained that the meeting aimed to discuss forming a grand coalition among opposition parties to challenge the APC in the next elections in the state.

According to him, if the coalition succeeds, it will provide quality leadership and governance in Gombe State, citing the APC government’s alleged incompetence and insensitivity to the welfare of residents.

“The coalition seeks to eradicate hunger, poverty, and poor leadership in the state, bring a new era of inclusive, accountable, and development-focused governance”, he said.

He added that before the meeting, he sat with notable opposition leaders in the country who are also planning to form a coalition at the national level to chase President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party out of power.

In his remarks, the SDP chairman in Gombe State, Adamu Modibbo, expressed readiness to work with other opposition parties “to salvage the state,” emphasising the need for collective sacrifice to forge a common front against the APC.

He called on other political parties and well-meaning citizens to join the movement, promising a new era of inclusive governance in the state.
