Mike Ozekhome, senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), says
Nigeria is “gradually driving towards a one-party state” and dictatorship.
The lawyer spoke in a chat with Channels TV’s ‘Hard Copy’ on
Saturday.
Recently, there have been waves of politicians defecting to
the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The latest defection was that of Uno Emo, governor of Akwa
Ibom, who joined APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ozekhome described the gale of defections as “bootlicking at
its highest level”.
He warned that Nigeria is moving towards one-party state
and, by extension, dictatorship.
“People are falling over themselves to endorse the
president, who has not been allowed to do his job over two years,” the SAN
said.
“Crosscarpeting by governor’s who won on the platform throwing
all morals and decency to the wind and then crossing over to the opposition
party. They are like Akara and Moi Moi; they are the same.
“We are gradually driving, without knowing it, towards a
one-party state. And it is a dangerous move because in a one party state,
dictatorship reigns supreme.”
