The drama surrounding the recent arrest of a TikToker who
accused Nollywood actress Regina Daniels of cheating on her billionaire
husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, has taken a new turn, with Nwoko firing back at
activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore.
Earlier this week, social media went into a frenzy after a
young male TikToker, known by his username “Tumaa,” was remanded in Suleja
Correctional Centre for making defamatory claims against Regina Daniels in a
now-viral video. In the clip, the TikToker alleged that Regina Daniels had been
involved in extramarital affairs, a claim that sparked widespread online debate
and backlash.
Activist Omoyele Sowore was among the first to publicly
condemn the arrest. He accused Ned Nwoko of using his influence to suppress
free speech and criminalize insults. According to Sowore, the TikToker’s
comments, while possibly offensive, did not amount to a criminal offense. “It
was just an insult,” Sowore stated in a video post on Instagram. “People insult
politicians every day, and we don’t go around jailing them.”
However, in a swift and scathing response, Senator Nwoko hit
back at Sowore, labeling both the activist and the TikToker as "miscreants
and nonentities." In his own Instagram post, Nwoko defended the legal
action taken against Tumaa, arguing that the matter was no longer about free
speech but about justice and accountability.
In a now-viral Instagram post, he wrote:
“This is who busybody jobless Sowore is pretending to be
defending. Sowore and the boy are miscreants and nonentities. He challenged me
to go to court. He has landed in the appropriate court and justice will take
its course. One million cyber bullying idiots can't stop him from being
prosecuted and punished as appropriate.”
