The Lagos government says it has taken delivery of three new
coaches for the state’s blue line rail.
In an X post on Thursday, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor
of Lagos, said the development means shorter waiting times and more comfortable
trips for everyone using the blue line.
“… we have taken delivery of three brand-new train sets of
12 coaches in total for the Lagos Blue Line Rail,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“It’s a step forward in our efforts to make daily commute in
Lagos less stressful and more reliable.
“We’re not stopping here. Work is ongoing to extend the Blue
Line all the way to Okokomaiko, and we’re aiming to finish that by 2026.”
Sanwo-Olu said the long-awaited project, which is finally
taking shape, will transform the city’s mobility for the better.
The governor appreciated the citizens for “their patience
and hope”.
The blue rail line started operations on September 4, 2023,
running 12 trips daily.
On October 11, 2023, Sanwo-Olu announced that the state
would temporarily shut down the blue rail line from October 14, 2023.
The blue rail resumed passenger operations days after, with
the trips increasing to 54.
In January, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority
(LAMATA) said it is exploring a partnership arrangement with the African
Development Bank (AfDB) Group to develop another rail line.
