Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has increased the monthly cash allocations to the state's four government-owned tertiary institutions from N10.5 million to N40 million.
The Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar-Tunga, announced the development at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi, on Wednesday, highlighting the governor's focus on education.
He said, “Prior to the new approval, the monthly cash allocations stood at N2 million for Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu; N1.5 million for the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega; N2 million for Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari; and N5 million for the College of Advanced and Legal Studies, Yauri.
“As from May 2025, His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has directed that each of the four institutions receive N10 million monthly,” the commissioner announced.
In addition to the increased allocations, Idris has also released a total of N96 million for critical interventions at the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega. “Of this amount, N60 million is earmarked for the accreditation of seven key academic programmes by the National Board for Technical Education.
“The courses include National Diploma (ND) in Community Health, ND in Environmental Health, ND in Health Information Management, ND in Nutrition and Dietetics, ND in Public Health, ND in Medical Laboratory Technology and ND in Pharmacy Technician.
“Furthermore, N36 million was released to regularise the admission status of 556 un-indexed students from the 2023/2024 session across the Departments of Community Health, Environmental Health, and Health Education.
“Investment in the higher education sector is critical to developing skills and fostering innovation and research. Thus, financing tertiary institutions is a major concern for any serious government”, the commissioner quoted Idris as saying.
Idris’ renewed focus on the education sector aligns with his administration’s broader agenda of human capital development, capacity building, and institutional strengthening.
