The Jigawa State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its intention to unseat Governor Umar Namadi in the 2027 election.
The PDP's confidence stems from past electoral victories where governors from opposing parties were defeated despite the incumbent president belonging to a different party.
The PDP cited Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's victory in Adamawa State in 2019, where he defeated Governor Jibrilla Bindow of the APC.
In 2015, Governor Abdulaziz Yari won despite the then-President being a member of the PDP.
The PDP also mentioned Governor Bala Kaura's victory in 2019, Governor Seyi Makinde's win in Oyo State in 2019, and Governor Ademola Adeleke's victory in Osun State in 2022.
The Deputy Chairman of the Jigawa PDP, Umar Danjani, expressed confidence in the party's ability to win the 2027 election, citing past examples of governors winning despite the incumbent president belonging to a different party.
“We are not bothered by the PDP’s challenge. We know that Jigawa State is in good hands and that Governor Namadi’s leadership has brought about significant positive change. The people of Jigawa believe in the APC, and they trust Governor Namadi to deliver another great performance in 2027.”
Danjani concluded by praying that "May Allah increase our victory."
