The FCT Police Command has denied allegations that its officers sealed off the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters in Abuja. Instead, the police said they were deployed to the area to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.
A faction of the PDP had planned to hold a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting at the party secretariat, but their efforts were hindered by security officers who stormed the premises.
While PDP members claimed the police sealed off the headquarters, the police command insists that their officers were merely present to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.
In a statement released, FCT command's spokesperson, Josephine Adehy, said contrary to reports, its officers did not seal the headquarters of the party in Wuse Zone 5.
Adehy explained that the deployment of police personnel was in line with their constitutional duty to protect public safety and maintain order.
Adehy emphasized that at no point did the police seal off the secretariat, contrary to reports circulating online.
The incident is linked to the escalating leadership tussle within the PDP, with factions reportedly plotting parallel meetings that could lead to violent clashes. The development has sparked heated debates online, with many expressing worry over the deepening crisis within the PDP.
