President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday said his administration
made history with the construction and completion of the Mabushi Transport
Terminal in the Federal Capital Territory.
The terminal was constructed by the Ministry of Federal
Capital Territory Administration, headed by Nyesom Wike.
According to Tibubu, it is the first time the Nigerian
government is making such an investment of such magnitude in transportation.
He disclosed this at the commissioning of the newly
constructed bus terminal in Abuja.
Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Tajudeen Abass, the President congratulated Wike for the landmark achievement.
He said: “Mr President has approved the construction of bus
terminals in six geopolitical zones as follows, Ondo State in Southwest,
Onitsha in Southeast, Warri in Southsouth, Lokoja in Northcentral, Gombe in
Northeast, and Kano in Northwest.
“I’m glad to say without any fear of contradiction that this
is the first time in the history of this country that the federal government
has made investment in this magnitude apart from rail and road.
“It’s appreciable to note that the choice of the places
where such terminals are constructed is influenced by the strategic location,
commercial viability, and the means to boost economic growth.
“I appreciate the visionary leadership of the FCT for not
only laying the foundation for the kind of leadership we are commissioning
today but for prioritizing the development of the transportation sector in the
FCT that is globally recognized as an enabler of economic growth and gateway
into the economy.
“Let me congratulate Wike for this laudable initiative which
will in no doubt improve public transport and boost economic activities within
the capital territory.
“I also will provide veritable avenue that will facilitate
the renewed hope agenda of this administration which placed transportation on
top scale of its priorities.
“I wish to appeal to all relevant stakeholders especially
leadership of various road transport unions to maximize this initiative and
encourage the government to do more for the welfare of the people.
“I congratulate the FCT minister for his landmark achievement
and I assure you of the indefatigable cooperation of the Minister of
Transportation in collaboration to sustain this giant stride for national
development.”
