A 56-year-old farmer, Henry Oyagbomwan, was tragically killed and buried in a shallow grave by five of his farm workers in Igueze village, Ovia Northeast local government area of Edo State.
The incident occurred on May 13, 2025, after the victim sold pineapples worth N900,000 at his farm.
The workers allegedly collected the money from the pineapple sales, killed their employer, and fled to different locations.
They demanded a ransom of N60 million from the family but later settled for N300,000 before cutting off communication.
One of the suspects, Bassey Uyong Umeh, was arrested in a creek, in Akwa Ibom State, and he led police operatives to the spot where the victim was buried. The decomposing corpse was recovered.
The Edo Police spokesman, Moses Yamu, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to arrest the other fleeing suspects.
The family, particularly the son of the deceased, Festus, is cooperating with the police to ensure justice is served. The police have assured that all suspects will be brought to book.
