Elon Musk has criticised President Donald Trump’s signature
tax and spending bill.
The bill was passed by the house of representatives last
month.
It includes multi-trillion dollar tax breaks, more defence
spending, and grants the US government permission to borrow more money.
The proposal, which Trump refers to as the “big beautiful
bill”, has been estimated to increase the budget deficit by about $600 billion
in the next fiscal year.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive,
outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting
abomination,” Musk wrote on X.
“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.
You know it.”
Last week, the tech billionaire left the Trump
administration after four months as head of the Department of Government
Efficiency (DOGE).
News of Musk stepping down caused a stir, largely because of
his close relationship with Trump.
But a retweet from the X CEO account stated that the
departure had not strained his friendship with the president.
“In the coming days, legacy media will try to convince you
that President Trump and Elon Musk are no longer friends and that’s why Musk
left,” the post reads.
“What they won’t tell you is that Elon was a Special
Government Employee, limited to 130 days of service and that term ends
tomorrow.”
Musk’s exit came a day after he spoke out against the
spending bill, saying he was “disappointed to see the massive spending bill,
frankly, which increases the deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the
work that the DOGE team is doing”.
“I think a bill can be big, or it can be beautiful, but I
don’t know if it can be both, in my personal opinion,” Musk said.
Before Trump’s second coming as president, Musk, who played
a significant role in seeing him back at the White House, pitched a
cost-cutting initiative multiple times.
