Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has warned that the
resurgence of Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East, especially in Borno
State, is part of the insurgents’ renewed efforts to destabilise Sahel region
including Nigeria, Niger Republic, Burkina-Faso and Mali.
Badaru issued the warning during a two-day working visit to
military facilities in Kaduna State.
The Minister disclosed this to newsmen immediately after he
toured military facilities.
“If you’re following what’s happening in Niger Republic,
Burkina Faso, and Mali, you’ll see that these attacks have heightened
everywhere,” Badaru said.
“There’s a renewed vigour by the insurgents to destabilize
the Sahel region and we’re doing alot to curtail them,” he said.
The Minister added that the federal government of Nigeria
will continue to fight it these terrorists as he expressed confidence that and
normalcy will return to the region.
“If you’ll do justice to us, in the past two weeks, you’ll
see that the armed forces are gaining momentum and attacking and eliminating
them,” the Minister said.
Just last weekend, suspected Boko Haram terrorists planted
Improvised Explosive Devices in Guzamala Local Government of Borno State,
killing nine persons.
