A recent incident has sparked a cold war between the Anambra Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) over the alleged k!lling of a Police Inspector during a 'stop and search' exercise.
The incident occurred in Uli, Ihiala local government area, when a police patrol team intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle driving against traffic, unaware that it was being used by DSS operatives.
The DSS personnel allegedly resisted the police's attempt to search the vehicle, leading to an altercation that resulted in the death of Inspector Bello Abdullah.
The police have described the incident as unfortunate and a mistake, while some police officers are seeking retaliation. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka for further investigation.
Tensions between the two security agencies are escalating, with both sides pointing fingers at each other. A senior police officer expressed outrage over the incident, while a DSS source warned that they would not be intimidated, hinting at a history of strained relations between the two agencies.
The Police Command's spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, has stated that the two security outfits have settled amicably, but it remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold and whether it will ease tensions between the police and DSS.
