Chelsea Signs Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in £30m Deal

Chelsea has completed the signing of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, triggering his £30m release clause. The 22-year-old has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues, set to expire in 2031.

The deal involves an initial payment of £20m, with the remaining £10m to be paid in installments. Ipswich Town has also secured a sell-on clause in the agreement. Chelsea beat off competition from Manchester United and Newcastle to secure Delap's services.

Delap expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, citing the club's stature and trajectory under the current head coach. He stated, "I understand the stature of this club... It's going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.

Delap's move to Chelsea enables him to participate in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States. He could make his debut against LAFC on June 16.

The England U21 international, scored 12 goals in 37 matches for Ipswich Town in the Premier League season, despite the team's relegation to the Championship. Delap becomes Chelsea's second summer signing after midfielder Dario Essugo joined from Sporting Lisbon.
