Dantata passed away on Friday in Dubai at the age of 94, and
according to his will, he is expected to be buried in Madina, Saudi Arabia.
The funeral prayer was held on Saturday at the Umar Bin
Khattab Mosque in Kano metropolis and was led by Ibrahim Khalil, chairman of
the Kano State Council of Ulamas.
Thousands of mourners, including prominent figures such as
Barau Jibrin, the deputy senate president, gathered to honour the elder
statesman’s memory.
According to NAN, Khalil described the late Dantata as “a
devout Muslim, philanthropist, and community leader who lived a life of service
and humility”.
Until his death, Dantata was one of the most influential
figures in Nigeria’s private sector.
He expanded his family’s legacy into a vast business empire
spanning construction, manufacturing, finance, agriculture, and oil and gas.
He was also widely respected for his philanthropic efforts.
Through his foundation and personal wealth, Dantata funded
schools, hospitals, mosques, and social welfare programmes across northern
