The lawmaker representing Bayelsa West, Senator Seriake Dickson has picked some holes in President Bola Tinubu’s speech during the joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday to commemorate the 2025 Democracy Day.
The lawmaker, who addressed journalists shortly after the
president’s address, alleged that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio,
violated his constitutional right during the event.
According to him, Akpabio rushed through President Tinubu’s
letters to the National Assembly and ignored his intervention, stating that
“that’s not how democracy works. That’s how military regimes operate.”
The Senator lamented that Akpabio “completely disregarded”
his right as a Senator to “raise a constitutional issue”.
Some stakeholders have tackled the president for ignoring
the pains of Nigerians but focused on politics.
Expectations of many Nigerians were dashed as the
president’s speech allegedly failed to capture important issues bedeviling the
nation.
According to a cross section of Nigerians, the president was
more interested in mocking opposition parties than addressing the wanton
killings going on across the country.
