Alkali Usman, a judge at the higher sharia court in Birnin
Tudu, Gummi LGA of Zamfara, has escaped from captivity after being abducted by
unknown gunmen.
Usman, who was declared missing on June 26, returned home
around 10am on June 27, according to local sources cited by Zagazola Makama, a
counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region.
Makama noted that he was immediately taken to a nearby
hospital, where he received medical attention and was later discharged.
Security operatives reportedly debriefed the judge shortly
after his return before reuniting him with his family.
Responding to a phone call from TheCable on Saturday, Yazid
Abubakar, spokesperson of the Zamfara police command, said he could not
disclose the circumstances surrounding the judge’s escape.
“He has been reunited with his family. That is all I can
tell you,” he said.
