The Nigerian government has explained that the
self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra, Simon Ekpa, will be extradited from
Finland to Nigeria at the right time.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of
Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, said Ekpa is currently being investigated by
the Finnish government for terrorism, after which he would be extradited to
Nigeria.
Fagbemi disclosed this during a special event on Thursday in
Abuja while giving an update on moves by the Nigerian government to extradite
Ekpa.
He said Nigeria is already working with Finnish authorities
to bring him back for trial.
“He committed an offence against the Finnish government as
well as in Nigeria. His extradition will come at the right time,” Fagbemi
stated.
Ekpa has been linked to the activities of unknown gunmen in
the Southeast, hiding under the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the
Indigenous People of Biafra, to wreak havoc in the region.
In November 2024, Ekpa was arrested in Finland along with
four others, who were later released.
His case is now with Finland’s Deputy Prosecutor General,
who will decide if charges will be filed against him there.
