The 2025 Met Gala saw a dazzling display of Nigerian talent
as Ayra Starr, Chimamanda Adichie, and Burna Boy graced the prestigious event.
The annual fundraising event took place on Monday night at
the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The gala raises funds for the museum’s Costume Institute,
supporting its exhibitions and fashion archives.
This year’s theme ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’
celebrated the artistry of black fashion, with the dress code ‘Tailored for
You’ inspiring bold and personalized looks.
Among the standout attendees were Chimamanda, who stunned in
an elegant, culturally inspired ensemble, and Burna Boy, Tems and Ayra Starr
who brought their signature styles to the event.
The ‘African Giant’ hitmaker turned heads in a sleek
burgundy three-piece suit with intricate matching details, exuding
sophistication.
Ayra Starr made a dramatic entrance in a striking black
gown, accessorized with a matching walking stick that added a regal touch while
Grammy winner Tems dazzled in a vibrant blue and green Ankara ball gown,
proudly showcasing African fashion on the global stage.
The Nigerian diaspora was also well-represented, with
Cynthia Erivo, the Nigerian-British singer and actress, and Ayo Edebiri, the
Nigerian-American actress, making memorable appearances.
While Nigerian stars shone brightly, Barbadian superstar
Rihanna became the talk of the night as she revealed her third pregnancy with
partner A$AP Rocky.
The singer cradled her baby bump on the red carpet, marking
her first public announcement of the pregnancy.
In June 2024, the 37-year-old singer dismissed pregnancy
rumours on social media but admitted that she was open to having more children.
