Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi and Garba Maidoki — all
serving senators from Kebbi state — have announced their intentions to move
from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers announced their defection plans on Friday
after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
They were led to the meeting by Abdullahi Ganduje, the
national chairman of the APC.
Aliero represents Kebbi central, while Abdullahi and Maidoki
represent Kebbi north and Kebbi south, respectively.
Also in attendance at the meeting with the president were
Nasir Idris, governor of Kebbi; Ahmad Aliyu, governor of Sokoto; and Atiku
Bagudu, minister of budget and economic planning.
The lawmakers’ decision to join the APC is expected to
strengthen the party’s influence in Kebbi and enhance its position in the
national assembly.
In recent weeks, opposition parties have lost a number of
their members to the ruling APC, with many other politicians, including state
governors, reportedly expected to join the party in the coming days.
