NANS President Accuses Seyi Tinubu of Orchestrating Abduction Over 100m Bribe Refusal

The embattled President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah, has accused Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of masterminding his recent abduction and forced resignation after he rejected a N100 million bribe to vacate office.

In a now-viral video, Isah detailed his alleged ordeal, claiming he was kidnapped shortly after submitting a formal petition to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja concerning threats to his life and efforts to delegitimize his leadership. He said the incident occurred on April 15, 2025.

"They offered me N100 million to resign. I refused because I was elected by students, not politicians. That's when they came for me," he stated in the video.

According to Isah, he was blindfolded, stripped, beaten, and taken to an unknown location, where he was coerced into reading a resignation speech that was later aired by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

"They forced me to record the resignation. It was torture-psychological and physical. The video was broadcast on NTA to make it look authentic," he alleged.

Isah specifically accused Seyi Tinubu of being behind the operation, claiming the President's son considered his NANS presidency a threat to personal and political interests. He added that Tinubu had publicly opposed his election during and after the 125th NANS convention in Abuja.

"Seyi Tinubu is a bad influence on Nigerian youths. He disrespects democratic norms and is using state machinery to silence dissent," Isah claimed.

In response to the incident, Isah's legal counsel, Barrister A.O. Ochogwu, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services, calling for a thorough investigation. The petition names Seyi Tinubu, rival factional leader Olusola Ladoja, and certain NTA officials as complicit in the alleged abduction and assault.

Reacting to the allegations  via his official Instagram handle, Seyi Tinubu dismissed the claims as entirely baseless and defamatory. He wrote, “Enough is enough with these fake stories and defamation of my character.” The message was accompanied by a screenshot of the report, which he labelled as “fake news.”

In another post on Instagram on Friday, Seyi Tinubu expressed shock at the allegations against him, describing them as lies aimed at damaging his image.

The President’s son clarified that he had never met or held discussions with his accuser, Isah anywhere, and rejected claims of visiting any location or having any involvement with thugs.

“All these allegations made by Atiku Isah are completely fictional.”

Sources close to the event said there was no credible evidence of Seyi’s presence at the venue, and guests reported no security breach or lockdown. Neither the hotel management nor law enforcement agencies confirmed any incident involving the president’s son.

Meanwhile, Seyi Tinubu’s camp has signalled that legal steps may be taken if the defamation continues unchecked.
