‘Many killed’ in midnight attack on Taraba communities

Many residents of Munga Lalau and Munga Doso communities in Karim-Lamido LGA of Taraba state have been killed in an attack by gunmen.

The attackers, suspected to be herders, were said to have wreaked havoc on the communities in the early hours of Friday.

The gunmen also set houses of residents ablaze during the midnight raid.

Agbu Kefas, governor of Taraba, described the incident as “horrendous and unacceptable”.

Emmanuel Bello, media aide to the governor, quoted Kefas as saying the aggressors “would suffer great repercussions”.

“Dr. Kefas also reiterated his commitment to continue to secure the state from external attacks and other forms of aggression,” the statement reads.

“Consequently, Dr. Kefas stressed the need for greater collaboration between the people and security forces, especially in the areas of vigilance and sensitive information sharing.

“The governor assured the state of his administration’s resolve to continue prioritising security above anything else, noting that the safety of the citizenry remains his main job.

“The governor further noted that all necessary measures have been put in place to nip the escalation of hostilities and to bring all troublemakers to justice.”

In the past few weeks, there have been a series of attacks in Karim-Lamido LGA following the renewed hostilities between farmers and herders.

Three people were killed a few days ago in an attack on Bandawa community.

The attack occurred after a farmer was killed on his farm by suspected armed herders.
