Gunmen have kidnapped three members of the Deeper Christian
Life Ministry in Akure North LGA of Ondo state.
The incident occurred on Monday evening while the victims
were returning from a Bible study session at Kasemola, a community in the
Ogbese axis of the council area.
In a message circulated on the church’s WhatsApp platform,
the congregation appealed for prayers, saying the case had been reported to security
agencies.
“Good morning, beloved. Kindly pray along with us. Three of our members were kidnapped yesterday after Bible study at Kasemola inside the Ogbese axis,” the message reads.
“We are seeking divine intervention to secure the release of
our kidnapped members. The case has been reported to the police and Amotekun
Corps in the state.”
A source within the community told reporters that the
kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N5 million each — totalling N15 million —
for the release of the three victims.
“The community is in shock, and prayers are being offered
for the safe return of the abducted church members,” the source said.
Olushola Ayanlade, spokesperson of the Ondo state police
command, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, while stating that officers have
begun search operations in the surrounding bushes.
“I can confirm to you that there is an issue of kidnapping,
but I cannot confirm the number of victims for now,” he said.
He added that the police are working with local security
outfits and residents to ensure the victims are rescued unhurt.
