R&B superstar Chris Brown has been arrested in
connection with an alleged assault on a music producer at a London nightclub in
2023.
The 36-year-old American singer was detained by Metropolitan
police officers in the early hours of Thursday at Manchester’s five-star Lowry
Hotel, where he was staying after arriving in the United Kingdom via private
jet.
Brown, who is due to begin a world tour in three weeks, was
arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
The arrest is connected to an incident at Tape nightclub in
Mayfair’s Hanover Square on February 19,
2023.
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester
shortly after 2am on Thursday, May 15 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm,” a
Met police spokesperson told TheSun UK.
“He has been taken into custody where he remains. The
investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic
Command Unit.”
Abraham Diaw, the music producer who is the alleged victim,
claimed Brown attacked him with a bottle at the nightclub.
“He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee
collapsed as well,” he said.
Diaw has since filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking
$16 million (£12 million) in damages for injuries and losses stemming from the
incident.
Brown remains in custody as the investigation continues.
