Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has tasked the Nigeria
Police Force and the Department of State Services, DSS, to intensify on investigation
of suspected hackers of the Joint Administration and Monitoring Board’s
website.
Uzodinma made the call in a statement on Saturday while
commending the security operatives for the arrest of the suspects.
Recall that JAMB experienced glitches in its
website in the last examination, which affected the results of more than
370,000 students, mostly from the southeast.
Recall that the police and the DSS on Friday announced the
arrest of 20 suspects over the hacking of the 2025 computer-based test of the
JAMB examination.
The suspects reportedly compromised, for a fee, the JAMB
website, resulting in the chaos experienced by the examination body and the
subsequent trauma for parents and students.
Reacting to the arrest in a statement issued on his behalf
by the state Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon
Declan Emelumba, Uzodimma, who is Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum,
described the arrest as timely.
The governor said the arrest was not only necessary to
establish the root cause of the problem, but also to douse the tension that
arose in the nation because of the crisis.
According to him, both agencies must move quickly with the
investigation to unravel those behind the hacking of the JAMB website.
The governor was of the view that a quick investigation and
arraignment of the suspects in court would act as a deterrent to would-be
criminals.
He said the JAMB imbroglio was a national embarrassment that
should be dealt with immediately. Uzodimma, however, commended the JAMB
registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, for his sincerity and commitment in ensuring
that the sanctity of the examination body was preserved.
