President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with members of
the Lagos state house of assembly at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as part of
efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis within the legislature.
The meeting, which began on Wednesday afternoon, follows
weeks of political turmoil in the Lagos assembly.
In January, 36 lawmakers voted to impeach Mudasiru Obasa as
speaker over allegations of abuse of office and financial mismanagement.
However, he was later reinstated following the intervention
of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of
the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.
Mojisola Meranda, who briefly replaced Obasa as speaker
before stepping down, is among the lawmakers present at the meeting.
While most of the legislators arrived at the presidential
villa together in a coaster bus around 2pm, Obasa arrived separately about 30
minutes later.
Sources say the meeting is aimed at restoring unity within
the Lagos APC and ensuring stability in the state legislature.
Discussions are still ongoing at the time of this report.
