‘I utilised funds judiciously’ — Kennedy-Ohanenye speaks on EFCC probe

Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, former minister of women affairs, says she honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to provide clarifications on expenditure during her stint in office.

On Thursday, Kennedy-Ohanenye was interrogated by the anti-graft agency over allegations bordering on N138 million fraud.

In a series of posts via X on Friday, the former minister said she arrived the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday around 2:15pm and left by 6:50pm.

Kennedy-Ohanenye said she provided “comprehensive clarifications” on her actions during her tenure.

She commended the EFCC for its “professionalism”, adding that she is available for further inquiries.

The barrister added that as minister, she used available resources prudently and even supplemented with her personal funds.

“I arrived at the EFCC headquarters at 2:15pm, and the substantive discussions commenced at 2:50pm,” she wrote on X.

“During this time, I provided comprehensive clarifications regarding my actions as the minister of women affairs. I rounded up by 6:50pm and left thereafter.

“I commend the EFCC for their professionalism and hospitality, and I appreciate the opportunity to address the matters that have recently been circulating in the media.

“I remain fully committed to cooperating with the EFCC and will be available for any further inquiries. It is the duty of every government official to be transparent and accountable for their time in office.

“During my tenure, my team and I executed our duties diligently, utilizing available resources effectively, and even supplementing with personal funds, demonstrating our dedication to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerian women and children.”

Kennedy-Ohanenye was among the five ministers sacked by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024.H
