Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has revoked traditional titles held by himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governor Boni Haruna, and several others following the restructuring of emirates and chiefdoms in the state.
Fintiri announced the decision during the coronation of the
newly installed Chief of Madagali, emphasizing that all District Heads must now
align with the newly created emirates and chiefdoms. He explained that
traditional titles previously conferred under the old jurisdictions were no
longer valid.
The restructuring affects titles originally bestowed under
the Adamawa and Mubi emirates. As a result, Fintiri relinquishes his title of
Sarki Yaki Mubi, Atiku loses his position as Waziri Adamawa, while Haruna
forfeits Makama Mubi, among others impacted by the changes.
To ensure a smooth transition, the governor directed traditional councils in the newly formed emirates to propose fresh titles for approval in accordance with customary laws.
He also stated that the Lamido of Adamawa could submit
Atiku’s and others’ names for reconsideration, but any reappointment would
require his final approval.
