Reconstruct, rehabilitate Ilesa-Ibadan, Akure-Ado-Ekiti roads – NUJ tasks Tinubu


The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, B Zone has appealed to the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently rehabilitate and reconstruct some bad roads in the zone.


The union leaders in the six states that make up the region made this declaration in a communique issued at the end of its zonal meeting held in Ibadan on Friday.


Our correspondent reports that the zonal meeting, which was hosted by the Oyo State Council, was presided over by the Zonal Vice President, Princess Ronke Afebioye-Samo.


The zone, in a communique made available to newsmen on Saturday, called on the Federal Government to urgently reconstruct and rehabilitate some deplorable roads in the Southwest region especially the Ilesa-Ibadan expressway, Akure-Ado Ekiti road and Ibadan-Odeda-Abeokuta roads.


The communique was signed by Leke Adegbite (Chairman, Ondo Council), Bunmi Adigun (Secretary, Ogun Council), O’Seun Ogunsakin (Secretary, Ekiti Council), and Abdulrasaq Alege, Zonal Secretary.


They also bemoaned the deplorable condition of facilities at state and Federal Government-owned media outfits in the region.


The zone also urged the Federal government to review some of its economic policies, urging it to come up with innovations to provide succour for the masses.


“The Zone calls for urgent actions from the Federal Government to reconstruct and rehabilitate some deplorable roads in the Southwest region especially Ilesa-Ibadan expressway, Akure-Ado Ekiti road, Ibadan-Odeda-Abeokuta road among others.


“The Zone also urges the Federal Government to review some of its economic policies and come up with innovations that would provide succour for the suffering masses.


“The B-Zone charges the Government to immediately reach an amicable resolution with the NLC/TUC in approving acceptable new National Minimum wage for workers amidst harsh economic situation in the country,” the communique read.
