Provide documents on FAAC allocations since 1999 – SERAP urges 36 governors, Wike

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has urged Nigeria’s 36 states’ governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, to make available source documents detailing the spending of trillions of allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) since 1999.

SERAP also urged the governors to collaborate with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to monitor the spending of the allocations and probe any corruption allegations linked to the funds.

The request followed reports that in March 2024 alone, the FAAC disbursed N1.123tn to Nigeria’s federal, state and local government.

SERAP has given a deadline of seven days for the provision of the documents.

It said if its directive was not honoured, the group threatened to institute legal proceedings to compel compliance.

In the Freedom of Information (FoI) requests dated 20 April, 2024 and signed by SERAP deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said: “Nigerians ought to know in what manner public funds, including FAAC allocations, are spent.”
