Police arrest Buhari’s political ally for inciting violence in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has explained that it arrested Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, a political ally of former President Muhammadu Buhari, for fomenting trouble in the state through unguarded radio and social media statements.

Danbilki was quoted to have said: “We are ready to confront this NNPP Government if they dare touch the five Emirate Councils, and we will make Kano ungovernable to show them we own this state”.

The Commissioner of Police, CP, Hussaini Gumel, said Danbilki has been charged to court and subsequently remanded in prison custody.

Gumel said Danbilki was remanded by Court No. 32, No-man’s-land, Kano, presided over by the Chief Magistrate, which sent him to the Correctional Facility in Goron Dutse, where he will stay till February 6, for determination of his bail application.

The suspect while featuring on a local radio station, and in a viral video, called on residents of the state to resist attempts by the state government to reorganize the current structure of the five Emirate Councils in the state.

The CP said the suspect’s action was highly likely to incite violence in parts of the state or attract massive counter protests that may lead to loss of lives and property.

The commissioner said that he had profiled the suspect and found that he had separately and severally been using the same medium to disseminate hate-speech, recorded on various social and conventional media channels, as a money-making venture.

He urged citizens, especially Kano residents, to note that those potentially harmful messages were ill-intended and cannot project anything good or promote political interests, and should, therefore, “quietly ignore the subversive content” when they come across them.

“A word is enough for the wise. There is no more space for any form of criminality in our area of supervision as competent intelligence officers have been deployed in and outside the metropolis to build confidence of the people and beef up the desired security relentlessly.

“All we want from members of the general public is to keep volunteering information to the nearest security outfits for prompt and necessary action.

“The Command would remain committed to fighting crime and providing a safe and secure environment for everyone to enjoy in all parts of the of the state,” the CP added.
