Daniel Bwala, a media aide to the 2023 Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has identified the
difference between President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, ex-President
Muhammadu Buhari.
Bwala said unlike Buhari, Tinubu is not ready to defend his
appointees caught in fraudulent acts.
Posting on X, he commended Tinubu for suspending the
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu for alleged
financial fraud.
Leaked documents had revealed that Edu directed the Office
of the Accountant-General of the Federation to pay the sum of N585.18 million
into a private account owned by one Oniyelu Bridget.
The ministry claimed Bridget currently serves as the Project
Accountant, Grants for Vulnerable Groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos and
Ogun states.
But the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin
Madein, rejected Edu’s directive and refused to pay the said sum of N585.18
million.
Following the outrage that occasioned the scandal, Tinubu
suspended the minister, while ordering the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, to thoroughly investigate her.
Reacting to Edu’s suspension, Bwala posted on X: “Again
@officialABAT is showing that when there is a credible substance in an
allegation he will act in public interest. He has suspended the beauty pageant
minister. Give it to him.
“What has clearly distinguished @officialABAT from his
predecessor @MBuhari is that President Tinubu does not look like one prepared
to defend appointee caught with his/her hands in the cookie’s jar ( at least
for now)
“But if anyone thinks this alleged corruption only exists in
the Humanitarian Ministry, that person is clearly a comedian.
“There appears to be a determination cooked with a sense of
urgency by some corrupt appointees to pounce on our commonwealth like a bulldog
that has found the last borne on the planet earth. This is a national security
threat.”
