Rivers crisis: Lawmaker makes U-turn, returns to PDP after defection

Linda Somari Stewart, one of the Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, has made a U-turn.

Stewart, who represents Okrika in the State Assembly, has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after defecting to the APC with other members of the House.

Recall that 27 state lawmakers believed to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, had defected to the APC.

Following their defection, the Speaker of the House declared their seats vacant.

The development followed the face-off between Wike and his successor, Governor Sim Fubara.

  1. All the Rivers state Assembly members that defected to APC are cowards. They have shown that they have no mandate of the Rivers people but that of one man, Wike. Wike is in Abuja as FCT minister remote controlling Assembly members in the State and such guys will come tomorrow and say we are honourable members. Really. Fubara, you cannot only be impeached by Wike if you so wish.
Pull down the national Assembly, make sure no pin comes out from there. Let the speaker declare vacant the seats of the defectors. Declare them terrorists of Rivers State democracy and ensure they have no people on mind anymore. Let the state house of assembly remain closed for two years. The defectors will not be paid a dime. Let Wike pay them.

  2. Quite unfortunate that this ugly incident is before us. Instead of the HSE of Assembly Honourables to be loyal to the Gov & Rivers State, they pledged their loyalty to an Emperor who is no more on the thrown. What a sad precedent. Gov Fubara should watch out as next plan by Wike and his terror gang will be to impeach him. Gov Fubara, lock and seal up that Assembly complex without delay.
