Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States,
ECOWAS, Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Bola Tinubu, has
said leaders in the region must begin to explore ways to deliver good
governance.
He said such priority would ensure collective prosperity and
probably prevent authoritarian seizures of power and unconstitutional changes
of government in the region.
Tinubu gave the charge while addressing the 64th ordinary
session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja on
Sunday.
According to him, good governance would serve as a catalyst
to secure popular support through the socio-economic transformation and
development of West Africa.
He said the delivery of good governance is equally an avenue
to address the concerns of citizens, help in improving their quality of life,
and would go a long way in creating a stable environment conducive to the
achievement of sustainable development.
Tinubu also opined that good governance would tackle the
challenges of poverty, inequality and other concerns of the people, stressing
that African leaders would have succeeded in addressing some of the root causes
of military interventions in civilian processes in our region.
Commenting on resolutions adopted by West African leaders to
strengthen democratic governance and uphold the right of the people to elect
the leaders of their choice, he said the bloc had reeled out specific measures
to sanction any member state opting for an unconstitutional change of
government.
His words, “While the imposition of punitive sanctions may
pose challenges, it is important to underscore that the struggle to protect the
fundamental liberties of our Community’s Citizens must be upheld and
respected”.

Mr,president you know Nigerians never voted you into power at all
ReplyDeleteThere have never been series of ECOWAS meetings in the past years like what we are seeing these days. But, as western interest in francophones countries are shrinking because they have been told to quit. They have exploited these countries illegally in conjunction with former corrupt leaders who were chosen by the west so that their interests would be safeguarded. Elections does not exist. In these countries because citizens votes does not count and this’s why some president can be in power for 40 years with 90% votes. ECOWAS meeting in Abuja must have been planned by western countries for African leaders not to remove sanctions against three countries operating military regime because, they are hindrance for spillage. . President Tinubu should not forget that these countries are sovereign countries and has the right to military rule. Were there external military intervention when Nigeria was constantly experiencing military coup d’état? Happily enough, these countries have formed a confederation, and. they have the right to do so. President Tinubu must know that France and the U.S. has spilled the blood of these francophones countries. They are said to be the most poorest countries in the world whereas they are not. . Western countries uses African mineral resources to announce their GDP figures, and today, they are in Red because Africans has told them to leave. In less than 14 months in power, military regime in these countries have done what western countries could not do since 1956, they are constructing roads, hospitals, schools, industries to transform their mineral resources, affordable housing programs, railways, metropolitan transportation, nuclear facilities, production of arms etc etc. I have always said that, western countries does not want Africans to develop, all they want is to maintain the continent in a perpetual poverty, hardship, misery, diseases, beg for food and be indebted to them.
