Inspector seen in viral video slapping motorist to face disciplinary action

The Imo police command says an inspector seen harassing and slapping a driver in a viral video has been arrested.

In a statement on Wednesday, Henry Okoye, police spokesperson in Imo, said the officer is currently under investigation.

In the viral video, the inspector was seen yelling at the driver and dishing out slaps after removing his cap.

“Are you the only person? Do rubbish and I will beat you up. I will tell my boys to put you inside the boot,” the officer said.

“Do you know who you are joking with? How many of your people, your relations are inspectors of police? I said shut up.”

Okoye said Mohammed Barde, commissioner of police in the state, has condemned the action of the officer, adding that it contravened the ethics of the force.

“The attention of Imo state police command has been drawn to a viral video with a caption; ‘Nigeria Police can never be your friend especially the ones in Owerri’, where a police inspector alleged to be serving in Imo state was seen forcefully removing the cap of a young man and slapping him severally on his face,” he said.

“The commissioner of police, Imo state, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, condemns this irritating act in totality as it highly contradicts the professional ethics and code of conduct of the force.

“The Nigeria Police Force is a highly disciplined organization and will never tolerate the misconduct of the officer seen in the video.

“To this effect, the CP has mandated his monitoring team to investigate the officer for necessary disciplinary action.

“More so, the victim is encouraged to call the PPRO Imo on 08148024755 or come to the police public relations department Owerri and make his complaint.

“The recalcitrant inspector has been identified, he is currently undergoing an orderly room trial after which necessary disciplinary action will be taken against him.”
