May 29 inauguration: Ekpa backs Iwuanyanwu’s call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

A popular Biafra agitator and separatist, Simon Ekpa, has backed the call for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, before 29 May 2023 handing over.

Ekpa’s reaction is coming on the heels of the President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to release Kanu as his parting gift to Igbos worldwide.

The Finland-based lawyer and self-styled Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile urged that the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo would be consistent in pushing for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“We commend Iwuanyanwu for calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We urge and hope that his leadership will be consistent and aggressive in pushing for MNK’s release. Iwuanyanwu should remember that he has been in our good books since 2022”, he wrote.

Nnamdi Kanu was re-arrested in 2021 by the federal government and has been detained since then despite court orders seeking his release.

Buhari will hand over power to President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29, 2023.
