‘Do your job’ – governors say DSS should arrest those behind interim government plot

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) says the Department of State Services (DSS) is heating the polity by issuing statements and not making any arrests.

The NGF said this in reaction to a statement issued by the secret police.

On Wednesday, the DSS said it confirmed a plot “by some key players” to install an interim government and stop Bola Ahmed Tinubu from being inaugurated as president.

In a communique issued on Friday by Aminu Tambuwal, the forum’s chairperson and governor of Sokoto, the governors said the DSS should urgently arrest and prosecute all those behind the plot.

“The forum deliberated extensively on the alleged plot by some unscrupulous elements to install an interim government as contained in the recent statement issued by the DSS,” the communique read.

“Governors condemned in the strongest terms any unconstitutional means of regime change and pledged their commitment to continue to defend Nigeria’s democracy as elected leaders.

“In addition, the forum believes that issuing statements without arrests is akin to heating the polity and causing unwarranted tension in the country.

The forum said it would organise an induction programme for governors-elect.

The event which is scheduled to hold from 14th -17th May 2023, will bring together newly elected, re-elected, and past governors, national and international leaders, captains of industries and development partners.

According to the communique, the event is designed to “build the capacity of governors, to establish, organize, manage, and set agenda/priorities using best practices whilst leveraging the tools of their trade – people, processes, programmes and public opinion – for greater and more effective governance”.
