Obaseki orders probe of sack letters to AAU workers

Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has ordered an investigation into the disengagement letters issued to workers at the Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma.

A statement issued on Tuesday by his special adviser on media, Crusoe Osagie disclaimed the letters.

The Edo government stated that action would be taken swiftly on anyone found to have issued them.

Obaseki declared the letters illegal, null and void, stressing his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

The governor promised to uphold the interest of the university staff and continue to position the state as a suitable place to live and work.

It was reported the institution has been in the news in recent months over some decisions by the management.

Last October, after resumption of activities by members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the AAU chapter had a face-off with the management.

It followed alleged arbitrary removal of the substantive Deans of faculties of Agriculture and Social Sciences by Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Sonnie Adagbonyin.
