The Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate in February 25 election, Peter Obi, has reacted to the fire outbreak at Akere Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos, which destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
Obi’s reaction came in a statement via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.
It was earlier reported that the Akere Spare Parts Market in Lagos went up in flames early Wednesday morning.
A statement by Margaret Adeseye, Fire Service Director, who confirmed the incident, said the Ajegunle Fire Station was the first respondent at the scene.
Meanwhile, Obi has commiserated with all those affected by the fire disaster, calling on the government and relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak in order to forestall future occurrences.
He also urged the government to find ways to help the affected victims, emphasizing the responsibility of government to protect lives and property.
Obi said, “This morning, I received the sad news of the fire outbreak at Akere Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos. Hopefully, no life was lost, but the means of livelihood and properties, worth millions of naira, lost to the inferno are of great concern to me.
“I commiserate deeply with all those affected by this fire disaster. I call on the government and relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak thoroughly and forestall future occurrences while finding ways to help the affected victims.
“The need for equal protection under the law; and the government’s meeting of her responsibility to protect lives and property cannot be overemphasised.”
